Winter 2015 Yuzen Subscription Box Review
Calling all subscription box lovahs! I recently discovered a new all-natural & eco-friendly goodie box called Yuzen. It’s a quarterly, thoughtfully curated subby box featuring a mix of 6 beauty, snacky and lifestyle items to help you get your zen on. Heads up: Although the box is 100% cruelty-free and mostly vegan, it’s not exclusively vegan. This box contained 6 goodies, 1 item had beeswax in the ingredients (will be gifting to a friend). This would make a great gift for a veg-curious friend, tho’.
Price: $33/quarter (U.S. only)
Kimberly Parry Organics Sweet Orange & Cranberry Scrub, $13 – Scrubs are my jam! I use them nightly on my hands for a quick spa-sy treat. This scrub smells super festive and seasonal – perfect for Christmahanukwanzaakah! I actually have a cold and my sniffer is basically kaput, but the comforting and warm fruity smells still made their way through.
Black Dahlia Nail Lacquer in Red Spike Cactus, $9.50 – Black Dahlia is one of the raddest indie polish brands. I only discovered them earlier this year and fell instantly in love. Their bottles are uniquely shaped (and come in different sizes), and if you’re a fan of glitter (GUILTY), they rock sparkles like nobody’s business. This shade is gorrrrgeous, perfect for the holidays, and it’s vegan and non-toxic to boot!
The Tea Room Chocolate Fusion Dark Green Earl Grey Chocolate Bar, $3.29 – I’m such a foodie, and I’m gonna go ahead and say this was my fave item in the box – and I’m not ashamed to say I ate the whole thing in one sitting. I love tea. I love chocolate. End of story. Now, If they could just infuse vegan marshmallows into it, it would literally be the most perfect chocolate bar in the world. 😉
The Tea Room Raspberry Rooibos – Oh hey, friend. I think imma eat you up in 2.5 seconds. Nomnomnom. These lil’ guys were dee-lish! Only gripe is that my belleh wanted more. 😉
Sanitas Oil Free Moisturizer, $7.50 – I personally like slathering copious amounts of oils on mah face, especially before bed (keep in mind I’m 30-something), but I think this would be a great fit for someone with sensitive, oily or acne-prone skin. It’s light, quick-absorbing, and fragrance-free!
Co Pur Facial Scrub + Mask Two-In-One, $10.40 – I appreciate the simplicity of this mask/scrub. It’s made with only 3 ingredients: French Green Clay, Grapefruit Peel Powder, and Camomile Powder – that’s it! This is very much like the DIY beauty masks I make at home so this gets 2 thumbs up. I also like the convenient shaker bottle – will be reusing when it’s empty.
Salus Organic Lotion Bar in Lemongrass, $7.75 – I adore lotion bars! In fact, I have a simple DIY lotion bar recipe on VBR if you wanna make your own. This one, unfortunately contains beeswax (will be gifting), but I did take a whiff and it smells redonk!
21 Drops 18 Sleep Essential Oil Blend, $10.80 (save 10% off when you use coupon code: veganbeauty – Sleep is evvvverything, and getting good sleep can be a bit of a challenge, especially is you’re prone to overactive monkey mind when you’re supposed to be Zzzzing. This beautiful blend is made with palmarosa, sandalwood, vetiver, and ylang ylang essential oils which are designed to help quiet the mind, soothe restlessness, and relax the body. You just roll it generously onto temples, wrists, and neck, inhale deeply and chillll.
LEVEL Naturals Shower Bombs in Organic Menthol + Cucumber, 2 Pack, $4 – Y’all know I go gaga for bath bombs, but shower bombs are totally new to me. I need to rock these stat as I’m a sickling and my nostrils are hella clogged. This shower bomb is designed to help open your sinuses and provide a cooling and refreshing fog as you shower. The thing is though, I’m a bath girl… I literally haven’t taken a shower in almost a year! Don’t grode yourself out by that, I still bathe, people… in da bath… with mah bath bombs… BUT my beloved, crusty nose holes are telling me it’s time to take a damn shower. Stay tuned…
Overall impression: This box has a nice variety of full-sized, high quality items, valued around $67. Their packaging is really elegant (I know that shouldn’t matter but it kind of does), too. I’m especially excited about the chocolate, nail polish and shower bombs. This would definitely make a nice gift for a loved one.
Reminder: This box is not exclusively vegan, one item (the lotion bar) contained beeswax, but I believe in supporting companies that are on the right path toward making this world a little more cruelty-free & non-toxic.
What types of items do you love most in your subby boxes – beauty products, snacks, wellness supplements (tea, vitamins, water filters, etc.), jewelry, etc.?
